Karoo Incana with Sweet Orange, Madagascan Bourbon Vanilla, Osmanthus, Magnolia, Patchouli & Jasmine in Pure Golden Jojoba Oil.
 
When I first laid eyes on the flowering Karoo Incana I was so touched by the whimsical little flowers. They reminded me of tiny bright suns with little haphazard crowns, absolutely prickling in the sunlight and I was further delighted to smell the oil from this plant, it has an urgently unique aroma on its own.
 
The Karoo is renowned for having some of the clearest skies on Earth, the setting has a vast & haunting depth that one acclimates to, it is a presence.
 
When the sun sets in the Karoo, what was subtle soon glows into a kaleidoscope of rich syrups. I so wanted to capture the experience of this. I used other notes to illustrate the sunset colours and held the stage with the Karoo (Pentiza) Incana. This very special plant keeps the soil together, restoring disturbed areas, treating body ailments and brilliantly blooming for us through winters. It is believed that the unique flavour of the Karoo Incana (Pentzia incana, Ash Bush, African sheepbush or "Ankerkaroo”) contributes to the distinctive taste of Karoo lamb (a registered geographical indication). I wanted to wind the Karoo Incana’s scent through a different experience… a romance of fruit, florals and sensual bourbon vanilla.
 
I purposefully included pure osmanthus absolute oil, a lunar floral, to absorb the bloom and sink of a setting sun’s moment, a magic hour before the moon’s act. Osmanthus has a wonderfully rich mythology, but that is a tale for another time...  "The Moon is a symbol of what has been, forms of consciousness which must eventually disintegrate and lose their identity, absorbed by what they have given rise to, as the physical vehicle is discarded by the conscious entity which it has nurtured.
